I woke early in the morning and started reading about my leg issues on the phone. My symptoms quickly lead me to believe it might be shin splints.
I spent most of the early morning reading about tips for handling these for running and hiking.
I found some nice stretches that I will start doing everytime I take a break during the day. Furthermore I read that elevating the legs while sleeping might help. I will be implementing all of these.
Also a lot of literature recommends compression, so I ordered some compression sleeves for my calves. Also my shoes have a lot of miles on them and since worn shoes can contribute to shin splints I decided now would be a good time to replace them. Both of these orders will be awaiting me at the next resupply point 85 miles away.
While getting to the next resupply point I will try and follow advice to go slower and in particular reduce stride length.
I managed to replace my Darn Tough socks that had developed holes in them. They did not have the exact same model do I got some that are a bit higher.
We ate lunch at a Mexican place where I had Carne Asada Fries which is simply delicious and very calorie rich.
I also managed to squeeze in a visit to the bakery to get breakfast for tomorrow. Might as well get as much town food as possible.
The spa we are staying at decided to make a barbecue for us since we are the first hikers they are hosting this year. The food was very good and there was plenty of food for us. Again I am amazed at the generosity of the people I meet.
