Today my goal was to get close enough to Stehekin to catch the first shuttle. This meant stopping quite late.
Dramatic clouds early in the day
I had setup my tarp last night so I got a late start at 0544. The day started with a climb followed by quite a lot of snow walking.
Quite a lot of snow walking this day, this was just before the top of the first climb in the early morning light
I did not initially hike in mist or clouds but several times during the day I had to.
Near the top of the climb I get a view of the clouded valley I will be descending into
The day had a lot of climbing and luckily a few good views.
Further down the valley was still completely filled with cloudsBeautiful contrast between the lush greens and the snow
The trail was very overgrown in sections typically during climbs or descents. This was annoying as it makes it easy to miss rocks. Also constantly having plants brush against your legs gets tiring.
I managed to reach my goal at 2105 and met another northbound thru-hiker, Fireproof.
My name is Martin Caspersen, I live in the very flat scandinavian country of Denmark. Most of my life I have lived just north of the capital (Copenhagen), I have however lived a short while in Brisbane, Australia.
I have a big love for being outdoors. In my day-to-day life most of my time outdoors is spent running where I generally try and push for distance over speed. When I get a chance what I really like to do is to go hiking. In particular I like hiking in mountainous and generally strenous terrain. Until 2018 my hiking experience waslimited to somewhat shorter trips with the highlights being a 4-day hike in New Zealand and a thru-hike of the GR20 on Corsica.
In 2018 that changed as I thru-hiked the PCT, the Pacific Crest Trail, in the US. I have dreamed about thru-hiking the PCT ever since I first heard about it in 2011. The thru-hike was an amazing experience.
