Day 105 (20180713): 2229.9-2273.1

Today was a very mixed day, a few times I had some amazing views but a lot of the times I had green tunnel with no views. Mosquitos were once again quite bad in sections, one particular section was probably the worst I have had yet. Mount Adams through an old burn area Looking back at Mount Hood I believe ...

Day 104 (20180712): 2185.7-2229.9

Today was a miserable day it felt exactly like Oregon or at least the worst parts of Oregon, green tunnel and mosquitos all day. A bit of Washington’s steeper climbing revealed itself as well. One of the brief views of the day I started hiking at 0558 and quickly had to protect myself against mosquitos. The mosquitos were present the entire day and made the hiking quite miserable. ...

Day 103 (20190711): 2146.8-2185.7

Today I left Cascade Locks and entered Washington, the final state of the PCT. I wanted to start as early as possible while still taking advantage of the free breakfast. I woke up at 0530 and packed everything and had a shower. Then I checked out and walked to the breakfast restaurant so I was ready when they opened at 0630. I had pancakes and while eating I met two other hikers. I started hiking around 0700 and first order of business was to cross Bridge of Gods. This was beautiful and scary as there is no sidewalk and no shoulder. I managed it without being run over. ...

Day 102 (20180710): Zero in Cascade Locks

Today I had what I plan to be my last zero of the PCT. Even more than my other zeros I was really keen to get hiking again. I woke at my usual time around 0530 even though I obviously did not have to. Breakfast was not available till 0630 so I spent some time relaxing and took a shower. Breakfast was at the restaurant next to the hotel and was decent. ...

Day 101 (20180709): 2130.6-2146.8

Today I only had about 15 or 16 miles to hike to get to Cascade Locks which also marks the end of Oregon. I started hiking at 0537. From Wahtum Lake to Cascade Locks there was a few small climbs but other than that it is all downhill as I had to get all the way down to 100 ft. One of the occasional open views of the day ...

Day 100 (20180708): 2096.9-2130.6

Today was my hundredth day on trail and I was lucky enough to celebrate it with breakfast at Timberline Lodge. I was camped right next to Timberline Lodge and when I woke up I packed and went to the lodge hoping to pass the time till the breakfast started inside. The lodge was sadly locked but at 6 it was unlocked and I was able to get inside and relax in their sofas. The WiFi was surprisingly good as well. ...

Day 99 (20180707): 2058-2096.9

Today I made it to Timberline Lodge which is kinda famous for its breakfast buffet that I will get tomorrow. I had setup my tarp last night so I was a bit slow in getting started and was not on trail before 0620. One of the last open views before entering the green tunnel for most of the day ...

Day 98 (20180706): 2014.8-2058

Without double checking all my stats I am pretty sure this was my longest day on trail so far both in miles and hours hiked. It was in no way planned. Rockpile Lake in the morning Today I started hiking a bit earlier than usual at 0530 because I wanted to swing by Olallie Lake and give myself a bit of time to stay there. ...

Day 97 (20180705): 1979.7-2014.8

Today I passed 2000 miles but did not notice the mile marker since I forgot to look for it. I love the light in the early morning I started a bit earlier than usual as I wanted to get to Big Lake Youth Camp early and get laundry and shower done before lunch. I started hiking around 0535. To my surprise the mosquitos were quite active in the morning so I tried to hurry up with getting ready. ...

Day 96 (20180704): 1943.4-1979.7

A day with on-off mosquitos presence and a side trip to Elk Lake Resort. Last night was very warm which sadly meant that the mosquitos were very active in the morning. It was quite the struggle to get ready without getting completely eaten. The horrible mosquito lake I camped at Unlike most days I had to start out in full anti mosquito gear and still the mosquitos were very annoying. ...
